Do I look FAT in these Jeans?

Well, this is the blog equivalent - Can you critique my blog PLEASE?  In case you have not noticed, I don't REALLY know what I am doing.  I have a vision for this blog, but I do not know if I am transmitting it.

These are parts of my message:

  1. Simplifying our life, and keeping it that way.
  2. Living in a tiny home is a good thing, and doable.
  3. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE decorating blogs.  I've saved a ton of money (and more importantly, space) by having discovered them.  I don't buy MAGAZINES anymore!  Well, with the exception of Cottages and Bungalows magazine.
  4. Minkee Baby Gifts is a business we work from our home that helps us to accomplish our goals.  I cannot maintain two blogs, and it is closely tied to our objectives, so I am trying to marry them.

I want to know how to better tie all this together.  So,  although difficult and potentially embarrassing and uncomfortable, I really want to learn.

Please take a look around my blog, check out the layout, pages, buttons,  sidebar and gadgets. I would love for you to gently critique my blog. I’m hoping you will leave me some positive feedback about my blog. It would be great if you could give me constructive criticism but be sure to tell me what you like about my blog too! Do you like my pictures? Does my blog load quickly for you? How about the font?  All tips and tidbits welcome!
PS  I got this idea from My Re-Purposed Life

Oh dear, you have me laughing so hard from the title, that I'm going to have a hard time critiquing here! Great title, and so true!

As a stranger, having found you from Gail's blog, I just wanted to add that when I clicked your link, the first thing I noticed was how nice your header looked - and then I noticed the navigation buttons, and thought to myself that this is a home business site. And while that is MORE than fine - you made me think for a minute in number 4 above that the business is a means to an end, and doesn't define you as a person. Which kind of confused me as to exactly what kind of blog I'm reading.

But then, I started reading your posts... and it is definitely one of "my kind of" blogs - DIY type home decor blogs with a specialization in simplification and sustaining. So the only real thing I can say is that to a new reader, your blog has an identity crisis :)

Not that I don't think that the two can not coexist in peace - you might just consider a way to let new readers know that the blog is about BOTH - your home and simplification goals, as well as your business. Oh dear, I hope I didnt over complicate this - lol.

Very clean look, again-I love the header, its gorgeous, and you keep the 3 column style organized and easy to read. The whole thing is very pleasing to the eye!

Hi there! I Great catch title in your post. Made me read the whole thing!! I love humor so much! I am new to blogging, so I am no help..I can say that I really like your blog. I admire the people who have the white and calming effect on their blogs. Just like I love the White so many people use in their homes. But...if you visit me, you will see that even though I love white and creams and tans...I just can't do it! Somewhere in my brain, it defaults to color..Bright color. So anyway, thank you for letting me visit and hope to see you soon.
Blessings,
Denise

Oh...you had me at hello! Ok..let me first thank you for linking up to our lovely little party. I think I am smitten with your header that it took me a moment to go beyond it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I love the detailing..the color...the EVEYTHING. Hmmm...now I am not reviewing but wondering how I can copy YOUR header. I heart it. Hmmm...mental note of Boutique Mama. :)

I am usually not a fan of the 3 split blog model..but you do yours to perfection. You organize it so well...theme..color..and content wise. I love your personalized headers...cute and witty. How have I never met you before my dear?

I think everything works splendid over here in your world. Hope to hear from you and see more of you soon. Oh...and I hope that your comments are set with your email. I heart being able to reply to my bloggers, and so many are no-reply.
:( I believe this could be the beginning of a fabullous relationship.

Let me know if Gail & I can be any help in your virtual playground. You have won me over with the palette and form here. :)

Cheers~

I like the layout of your blog, and the banner/header is really nice!
Oh and I noticed I'm on your blogroll, (thank you)
I would love to see a small picture and "about me" on your sidebar (even though you have "about us" in the nav bar. Readers that are just passing through need to connect with the blog author. (I don't even know your name) :)

I think it's really important to keep your readers on your page by having your links open in a new window. If you would like info on how to do that, shoot me an email, and let me know if you blog in blogger or windows live writer. gail@myrepurposedlife.net

perhaps you might add some favorite projects (pictures to your sidebar) This helps to get people "deeper" into your blog.
Thanks so much for joining us in our blog hop, I really appreciate you adding the code to your site.
I'm only an email away if there's ever anything I can help you with! DIY, blog or otherwise.

HI :) You had me at "do I look fat in these jeans?" LOVE IT!
I like the clean look of your page and the pretty banner is oh-so-nice.
The only suggestion I have is that I had a slight problem telling the different sections apart. Maybe if you added some slightly darker dividers to help that out.
Can't wait to read more of this lovely blog :)

I can surely sense your personality from your posts but I keep feeling like I want more of you. Picture please? top right margin? Pictures on the side, of your favorite posts? I see you are on blogspot, They have a widget for this. Really I think you have a lot to show off!! BTW I love the pictures of your home it is lovely!!

I am excited to have stumbled on your blog! I love that you live in a "tiny house"! I love to see bloggers making a living by creating something at home and promoting it on their blog.

A couple of ideas that I have. When I click on the link "Minkee baby gifts" I can't tell what it is that you are selling. I had to click around before I see that you make beautiful blankets. I think you should show lots of blankets and then the fabric swatches. I'd also add more photos of the blankets to your main page.

I love that you have links to your favorite blogs but I think you will lose readers once they click on those links. Maybe you could make a separate page for those links.

I am not a fan of centered type. As a graphic artist I suggest to my clients to keep type lined up on the left.

Thanks for listening. Your color scheme is lovely and I think you can easily combine the two topics.

Hello! So excited to add your blog to my tiny house collection! It's encouraging to hear of successful transitions to tiny life, especially when it's a family with a business vs one single person! I like your blog layout a lot, I really am a fan of this big fonts and colors, it is so easy to look at! Like others have said, it might be a little much with the three columns, but to be honest, I'm really digging hard to find any angle where the jeans make you look fat, at all. I think it's great, I look forward to reading more!

only one critique is to maybe add dividers between your columns, for easier read. otherwise, it's great!

Hi everyone! I have tried to implement these great suggestions - I really like how much neater and more organized it appears. This has helped create a more 'restful' appearance - Thanks so much!

What a wonderful blog... I am a sustainable nut as well... so I am now a follower of your blog as of 1 minute ago :-) your banner is wonderful, and I like that you matched the color of the text throughout, very nice touch.... the only thing I would like to see are more images. Other than that great job.

This is lovely. I really like the way you outlined your purpose in this post. I think what you are doing is attractive to a lot of people and I think you would really capture their imagination and time if you added photos with links to your side bar.

I like your popular post feature, but honestly I don't think I would have scrolled down far enough if I hadn't been "on assignment". But I am so happy I did! My only suggestion is to make it more prominent:)

I like what you are doing... now following;)

What I like:

Always nice to see how a blogger decorates her own home and you've included pics/links to posts about that. You might want to move all posts related to your home, the popular posts and the others. This way I don't have to scroll past favorite blogs to get to these. You'll likely get readers clicking on more of these posts if they're grouped together.

Suggestions:

The title of you blog tells me that it's for those with babies in their lives. Since I'm past this stage I would likely have not visited had you not visited my blog first. I was pleasantly surprised to see design related posts. Are you willing to start a new blog?

Perhaps you could have a weekly featured product from the items you share and have that image at the top. I'm not as likely to click on the site and have a look around if the items are scrolling on their own. Something eye catching and colorful is more likely to pique my interest. (Just me, but I'm not really in the market for items for babies so I may not be the best person to ask.)
