If they can do it, so can we

This amazing video shows how rats can empathize with a caged mate.  In an experiment, a cage mate was entrapped by a mean human.  His cage mate learns to free his fellow furry friend.  Not shown in this video is another experiment with the same rats showing that freeing his cage mate gives him a much gratification as eating chocolate.  He even shares the chocolate with his freed friend.

Note at 1:01 how he frees his friend, and pulls his friends tail to help him get out.

What does this have to do with a blog about a 320 square foot home?  Everything.  We need to teach our son empathy.  Empathy is the ability to see other peoples needs, and then do something about it.

Now, if I could only teach my kitty cats the same lesson……

How do you teach your children empathy?  What lessons and teaching tools do you use?  I’d love the tips and ideas!

I have two grown children who have turned out to be such sweet and caring people, always standing up for the mistreated or abused. I guess the best way to teach your child is to model it. Children learn more by watching those around them. I don't remember teaching mine anything other than to treat people the way I wanted to be treated. Good luck to you in today's world where every one has the 'I want more, more, more, better, better, better, me, me, me, give me, give me, give me attitude.' As Gandhi said "Be the change you want to see."
