This is the center of our universe.

Well, a little exaggeration never hurt NOBODY, right?

A little history: in our ‘big house’ days, this was our TV cabinet.  This was from the old days when a big screen TV was four feet wide by four feet deep.  Yeah, this baby is an antique.  It has four shades of paint underneath.  I painted it every time we moved.

I NEED my coffee in the morning, and what we had before just wasn’t doin’ it for me.  I had to physically pull the coffee maker out, fill it up (I became quite adept at it though, I could hold it with one hand, flip the lid open, and pour the water into the well with one hand), and then add the filter, and then coffee.

This also housed my $25.00 microwave (internet special - WITH FREE SHIPPING - from two Black Fridays ago.  We were so broke……..I felt like I had really scored.  I still do).  So this is before:

CIMG2432

I painted the inside, and put down some ugly, green, flecked liner that I found on sale at Lowe’s for $4.00!  It was much more attractive when I realized I was saving $8 something per roll.   It took three.  See the shiny, metallic looking stuff under my microwave?  That is aluminum flashing left over from an outdoor repair.  I just glued it down.  If you know me at all, you know my love for stainless steel.  My TV cabinet now has that beautiful, vintage-y industrial look to it.

The other upgrade: I fashioned a little pull-out tray for my beloved coffee maker.   Now the stars are lined up, and I can make coffee without any mishaps.

Plastic Tupperware, a set of old copper canisters, a few baskets, that is all it takes to make me happy for eons.  See the basket on the bottom shelf?  That is a hammer handle sticking out of it.  I bet you have one of these too.  I love hammers.

Pantry

You know what is funny?  We still call it our TV cabinet!  Need some raviolis or chicken noodle soup?  “It’s in the TV cabinet!”, I yell to my son.

I love my tiny house.  Have I said that before?  Oh, sorry.  But I really do Smile

Deborah, it's so nice to see you posting again! I love your tiny house too! Our armoire has had a million lives, it's now finally painted a pretty cottage white! I love yours, and I know very often in hotels they use these too for the reason you're using them, such a great way to hide your items and look so pretty!

How funny! Yes, we have a tv. For the longest, we had a small, 19 inch tv in our bedroom that we never used. On 'movie night', we would set the laptop up in the living room and rent a red box movie. I do have basic cable, but there is nothing good to watch. For most entertainment, Gary and max keep busy with basketball and soccer, and I usually have a project going.

All that being said, we just got a 33 inch flat screen TV! We have hung it up on the wall in Max's bedroom, which is the new hangout. He has a twin bed that doubles as a sofa, and I have a scattering of pillows for the 'last one up has to sit on the floor!' person.

I must need to do a post on this - so many folks have asked "where is the TV?"

Thank you!

Debra

I''m at the part where you say you love stainless steel......!
I didn't know that about you, so YES, you should slap a shhet onto your frige for your magnet spices!

I love your writing style...and sense of humour, btw.

Debra,
How wide is your small house ?
If it is over 8 feet, 6 inches wide, it would require a permit to move down the highway.

Hi Curtis! Yes, we already had to get a permit to tow it to its resting spot here. We are ok with that, it was never meant to be the kind of house that you can just hook to a truck and drive away with. We wanted it to be 'semi-permanent', yet if we need to move to help a family member, it will still be easy to move.

Something to be said about being mortgage free.
I have 15 years to pay off 126 thousand dollar loan. Ouch ! Can't retire untill the home is paid off.
