Ok – I do exaggerate, but how can I explain my good fortune? I am pretty ornery, especially when it comes to washing dishes by hand. My sweet hubby and son really want to help out in the kitchen, but it does a number on my tummy to eat of a not so clean fork…..you get the picture. They have wonderful intentions, I should just be appreciative. Why am I so mean????
So, one night a few of weeks ago I had insomnia. I decided to browse craigslist. I had long wondered about these cuties:
This is a Haier Mini Dishwasher
So, I thought “what are the chances…..” and typed in my desired appliance.
“Noooo waaaayyyy!” I wanted to yell, but it was 1:00 am, and I knew it would not be wise. It was brand new, in the box still, they wanted $50.00. Not bad, as new with shipping is $200.00 or more. I immediately contacted the owner, and then did it again. I contacted the owner four more times before 8:00 am, I was obsessed.
Finally a response!
“It’s yours.” This was July 4th, they agreed to meet me with the goods. I only had three $20.00 bills, they had no change, so they gave it to me for $40.00!
My beautiful little dishwasher has a new home, and has done two loads a day of dirty dishes, and it works like a charm. I am once again head over heels in love with my tiny home.
Ok, so here are the pics:
Remember, this is how the sofa was before – it worked fine, I just lifted the ‘flap’ of fabric when I needed something from under there. It was not very practical for a dishwasher though……
Now……
Notice it is not on the countertop? I have a free countertop! Awesome! Pretty granite : )
Here it is!
This what I have been up to lately - I built cabinets under my sofa. Many thanks to the guys at Lowe’s… so patient with me!
And here is a load of clean dishes, see how much I can get in there?
So, while I was on the subject, I added this little detail to my sink cabinets:
So now it looks like this:
I love living here.

That's amazing! What a deal you got on that dishwasher. Does your sofa still fold out as a guest bed?
I love your ideas. I don't have a dishwasher and wish I did at times. The cabinet little legs are adorable--I'm definitely stealing that idea from you for my little kitchen. I know I've said it before; but, I truly love your blog!
O My Goodness!
you are way creative,
d
wow. just simply wow!
love it. seriously. :o)
Dear Debra,
I so admire all that you have done with your house. I can really see that you have the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit to bring it all together and make it work! God Bless you and your family!
Love,
Joanna
Wow, you are creative! As I was reading, I was thinking..."where is she going to put it?" Awesome idea and what a great bargain! Congrats. :)
Those are so cool! I know people who have them on boats. The price was so great I think I would have bought it even if I didn't need it (although at the moment my dishwasher is on the fritz.) Nice faux legs on the counter fronts too, thanks for the good idea. After we installed our new cabinets I saw a pinterest for a drawer in the lower toe kick area for cookie sheets. Too late now...
Oh, ALL RIGHT! Love x 18! Everything you've done-- hey! You've been busy!
'Splain the plumbing... That li'l gal's a hard worker! Worth two twenties every day, huh?!
Debra, that turned out fantastic! I can see this little helper coming in handy, when there's company over. Would also love to know, if your bed still folds out! Laura
How are you running water to this? These tiny dishwashers all seem to connect to the sink. Does this model have the ability to hook up directly to the internal plumbing?
Wow! I can't believe you did all that and can hide it too. It will be wonderful for you to not have to wash dishes, I'm sure that gives you an extra twenty minutes to yourself~ read, relax or eat chocolate ;) Very inspiring, Sally xx
Hi everyone :) Thank you for the comments and questions, sorry I have been out of pocket. Yes, these are considered 'portable', like a microwave. However with twenty dollars worth of parts you can connect it more 'permanently', like a normal dishwasher. I know nothing of plumbing, perhaps that was a good thing...the guys at Lowe's helped me, it was easier than trying to figure out how to make it work with my kitchen faucet.
So far it has been a real time saver. I had my doubts, but I love having the counter top cleared every time I do dishes. Usually I would just leave them to dry in the rack, and then we would do it all over again with the next meal. Yep, it's a keeper. If it breaks, I will report it, and I would buy another (at full price even!)
Oh you just gave me the most wonderful idea! My house is bigger than 320 s.f. (although it is pretty small) and my kitchen doesn't have room for a full sized dishwasher... now I have a small table top dishwasher on my wish list - thanks for the idea!
